DebEspace Biog
At age 16 I went to my first Stonehenge & never missed a year until we were stopped by the old bill in 1985, I was very much influenced by the good times I had at Stonehenge & of course I first saw Hawkwind there. & I remember the Enid & Here & Now playing there too.

In 1987 I met my sole mate husband David Elthalion he played guitar and rode a motor bike I was the singer in our first band together ToTenTanz we were playing at squat parties, like the old squatted Doll house in Peckham, with bands like The Sea, The Levellers, Back to the Planate. &
In pubs like the Gorge Robey Finsbury Park, with Nick Turners All Stars, & The Old Queens Head with the UK Subs. Then in 1992 we ended Totentanz.

1992 We got our second band together Lost in Space with drummer Bob Wand, it was still full of angst with a lot of electric guitar but with a smile & bright colours & much stronger catchy beats. We played the Marquee in London, & The Half Moon Hearne Hill, & a regular gig in Hastings at The Carlisle on the sea front. Plus a load more toilette circuit London gigs along with the odd Festival like the Sun Festival in Norfolk & Fordham Park in Deptford...
We also enjoyed a half page write up & photo in Melody Maker in 1995.
http://www.phreak.co.uk/debespace/revpop.html

Then just after The Melody Maker write up Bob left Lost in Space, it was in 95 he left to gig in the States with BAD, Big Audio Dynamite. We did a few more gigs with other drummers in Camden we were the support band with Max Splodge & that was a laugh & the last gig as lost in space in 1996.

I was now left with time on me hands to try and really learn to play guitar and sing and write some new songs while David was at work. So that’s what I did.
In 2004 I went in for the X Factor getting on the first show as a Reject singing a Pattie Smith song “Because the Night”. The audition went off on one and I ended up walking out singing an Ozzy Osborne song, “Crazy Train”...They Showed it on the telly my street cred plummeted, not really because I got to swear at Simon Cowel & see first hand what a side show TV really is, not a lot of difference from the Nut House, http://www.phreak.co.uk/debespace/info_holding_page/index.html

From that show in 2004 I got asked to perform “Hit Me” (one of my songs) on the Trisha Show for TV 1995 as they were doing an X Factor/Reality TV special. I was joined by some other women whom I had got together with to record an updated X Factor version of my song Hit Me. 4 of us were invited to sing it live,, .Well there is a lot you can do in a recording studio to improve or hide the voice but in front of a live studio audience, what can I say the backing vocals were shit, to be honest.
The whole day was a bad joke & meeting Trisha who didn’t want to shake my hand even though I did manage it. I didn’t realise I was going to be interviewed & by the time I was being interviewed I was in a bit of a hyper mood with not even being able to go outside for a smoke because the TV people don’t want to loose you.
But I did a good interview & got some positive feedback.

During that time I was also putting together the odd punk band like “The Spacettes”, It started out as a girl punk band because my old friend Krissy was learning to play guitar & my songs only had a few chords, we asked her mate Sam to join us on bass & we did about 2 gigs upstairs at The Intrepid Fox London at an open mic comedy night.
Then we changed the line up getting in a couple of blokes to play Bass & Drums Henry & Dave, we played at The Windmill for a Punks Picnic Event London and I was playing a lot of solo gigs at open mic nights. Until David joined me again in 2006.

I am an independent artist witch Is good because it means I am free to create whatever I want if people see me as too radical it is probably because they are use to a safe establishment type of statement & that’s not me.

the Dancing with space Ritual came about I think in 2002 I was at Glastonbury festival helping out Angel in the kids filed she said come & dance with me tonight with Nick Turner & some other X Hawkwind members.

I was thinking am I bit too fat to be a dancer now, but Jim who is in a wheel chair and was playing keyboard for them at the time was very encouraging, I am very glad I had the experience of a dream come true situation. There I was doing what I had seen other maidens do in front of me at Stonehenge with Hawkwind years before. I had so much fun dressing up in different wigs outfits and the buzz I got out of getting naked on stage was magic.

For me the whole Stonehenge scene was about freedom and taking my clothes off was exercising that freedom to be happy naked. Thanks to Stacie & others I felt I was keeping an old tradition going & not only that the music space ritual generates I am surprised there’s not more people stripping off when they hear the music of space ritual.

I remember fondly two guys coming back stage at the boardwalk in Sheffield apart from a lot of nice praise for my dancing and costumes there main line was just keep getting your bap's out girl. Which I thought sounded really funny because being a complete southerner I had never heard them called bap's before

One night on tour I went to the cinema with Space Ritual it was the night before a big Uni gig in Manchester. I asked Dave Anderson if I could do the support slot the following night. We was in a few small cars all cramped up on our way to see Kill Bill. Dave just came out with it Debbie can do the support tomorrow, yeah every one? Every one said yes, I was over the moon to be on my way to the pictures with these legends was serial enough, but to have just been offered the chance to play my songs as a solo artist at a big Uni gig in Manchester with Space Ritual was mind blowing.

I had a good 2 or 3 years driving up & down the country to space ritual gigs and I am thankful to them for having me, they really are the best live band you can see.
I was dancing with Space Ritual on their Satiricon DVD that’s available from the band

The last time I saw them play was at the 100 Club I think it was 2006 David Elthaion & I were lucky enough to get the support slot for that gig as Dos Bendechos what a thrill even if it was just an acoustic we still got the chance to rock The 100 Club.

As DebEspace I have written a small book called the belief system its fact & fiction as I do have mental episodes from time to time being bi polar and I have written down some of my trips in a fiction story based on facts about my life. There’s aliens sex drugs rock & roll & some really bad grammar and spelling but some of that can be humorous mistakes, the belief system is on my writer’s page http://www.phreak.co.uk/debespace/writer.html
Along with some writings about the findings of john allegro who wrote a lot of books about the Dead Sea scrolls, his finding have inspired me to make a few documentary’s about it .
He has also inspired the writing of my song Jesus was a mushroom & more.

In fact you tube is a great way to get my point across so we do put up a lot of songs on the web. A lot of our songs are controversial so the web is a good media.
One project was gigging as Dos Bendechos the name taken from Cheech & Chong it could mean pubic hair, can I say that? Can I spell that? It could mean apple seller, we really don’t know for sure its David & I as an acoustic duo, same as our CD album u r so nice but with out the fantastic backing vocals of our eldest daughter Breezy.

Breezy joined David & I in 2006 to record an album at Scream Studios in Croydon, 10 songs 2 voices & David on acoustic guitar we have done a few gigs for the Green Party at The Cartoon in Croydon, We are known as The EFT which stands for The Elthalion Family Trio & we only get together for friends private parties really.

2007 the return of Bob Wond & Lost in Space, yes 12 years on & Bob knocks on our door one day in 2007 saying shall we get the band back together, it was a great moment of joy & we became Lost in Space again, this time we had no bass player but that wasn’t gonna hold us back.
We started rehearsing just the three of us at Scream, Rock bottom, & Antenna still no bass & it was working well we done a few gigs as a trio & decided to record, we had a good few new songs & had revived some old classic LIS stuff.
It took us a day to record the 12 song album at scream studios with their great bloke Dave engineering. All in all 2007 was a very good year.

2008 LIS is still doing the odd gig at The 12 Bar West End, The Proud Gallery Camden, The Green Dragon Croydon, The Crooked Billet Penge
.DebEspace gets to co host with Alex Zane on “Mars Planets” “MySpace” Radio & Lost in Space recording of Silly Kids gets played by Alex Zane on the radio. http://www.phreak.co.uk/debespace/muzik.html

2009 Lost in Space do a few more gigs at The Crooked Billet Penge, they also tried out a few bass players but they didn’t work out. 3 is the magic number.
Lost in Space got some over sea’s interest from a radio host called Mr Anonymous LIS enjoyed doing a phone interview with Mr Anonymous & joining his web site & being featured on it.
LIS are still waiting to hear the interview, maybe they got a bit too Bill Grundy on him thinking they was in The Sex Pistols & getting too leary.

2010 at the start of the year Deb had a radio interview with DJ Terry Hawk from Haroughbourer FM on line as HFM, Terry has an all night Saturday radio show playing space rock music he is a Hawkwind fan & Deb met him through Space Ritual, it was the second phone interview Deb has done with Terry Hawk she put it on a video & uploaded it to you tube & its one of the most viewed videos on her page. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgPguQek87I
this year LIS have mostly been playing at the Black Sheep Bar at Crystal Palace a bloke called Crazy French Frank runs a good open mic night there every other Thursday LIS have been getting quite a name for themselves as the punk band amongst a load of Blues heads.
11th Sep was the first gig of the year at the Crooked Billet SE20 with the Chongs & we have 2 more dates there this year November 6th again with the Chongs & Gus Works Sounds & Mik Dred & Dangerous Doggies Fire Display.
“Penge Day” on the 4th Dec, an all dayer at the Billet SE20.
