For over a decade, Melissa Li has carved a name for herself as a passionate songwriter and performer. From getting her start in the subways and community enclaves of Boston to playing to thousands at San Francisco Pride, Melissa's music career has been a non-stop, surprising journey.
Melissa's brand of pop/rock channels the likes of Ani DiFranco, Jason Mraz, and Sara Bareilles. Alongside candid yet charming lyrics, her no-holds-barred songwriting is wrapped in a polished, and danceable, pop production. She released her solo debut 2 Seconds Away in 2008, the year she joined Kit Yan in forming the Good Asian Drivers, which has since become a nationally-renowned music/poetry trio. The band released, Drive Away Home in 2009, which received glowing reviews from Curve Magazine, Bitch Magazine, and scores of online and print publications. The Good Asian Drivers has been lauded by the press for their groundbreaking performance, and scored a nomination for an OUTMusic Award for their activism.
In late 2009, Melissa joined the classical rock experiment Just Puppets as its keyboardist. Their first EP, No, Strings Attached, was released on April 30.
Currently, Melissa is touring with her band, Melissa Li & The Barely Theirs, and is recording their new album The Beginning.
